A Magical Tale with Geek Appeal: Book Review

Book Title: A Magical Tale with Geek Appeal

Author: A. Phillips
Genre:
Target Audience:

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I chose this from NetGalley after reading the synopsis a couple of times trying to wrap my head around what it said and then there is obviously the title. I’m a self-confessed geek and they’re saying it will appeal to me. Let’s see if that’s right.

Image result for A Magical Tale With Geek AppealThree Londoners are approached by a strange young man with unusually hairy legs and a proposition before an ill-fated visit to a supermarket car park reveals the dark intrigue of an alternate realm.

This is my first DNF of the year. I just couldn’t get into it. The author for one used way too many brackets. They really weren’t necessary.

Now in all honesty I was looking forward to this as being a Brit I love British humour but unfortunately this didn’t hit the mark.

The story was slow and didn’t really seem to go anywhere. The characters although somewhat believable didn’t really come across as the geeks they were made out to be. Not all geeks are lonely and in need of dating tips.

Furthermore, what has the art of seduction have to do with appealing to geeks. Are we unable to find love because we choose to be ourselves? I think it was poor stereotyping. I’m happy being a geek and I’m married with two beautiful children and luckily I didn’t have to resort to internet dating to get him.

In addition, I didn’t really get why Otto having really hairy legs had to be part of the synopsis. It just seems a really odd thing to describe a book with.

As much as I tried to finish the book I just couldn’t do it. I got about 37% and I couldn’t bring myself to go back to it.

I give this book ⭐️
