What to do when a relative has a birthday on Christmas Day
So I’ve been with my husband for 12 years now and I’m still figuring this one out. Each year he seems to get this idea that because it’s his birthday i and Christmas day that this is a get out clause from doing anything, included bringing the extra chairs down ready for Christmas dinner, but this doesn’t sit well with me as on my birthday I still have to do things like any other normal day. If the dishes need washing it’s me that does it, clothes need washing yep me again and so on and so forth.
This year I’m not making it about him because he is at work this year (he’s getting double time so its stupid not to work it) and since we have a 7 year old and a 4 year old it shouldn’t just be about him.
What I would normally do though is wrap some presents in birthday paper and wrap some stuff in Christmas paper. Also each year I have bought tickets to an event a bit later in the year so that he has another day to look forward to that we could treat as sort of like a second birthday like the Queen.
One year we went to Birmingham for two days, a couple of years we have ended up in Manchester for shopping or an event like comic con.
Just because a birthday is on Christmas day doesn’t mean they can’t have another special day.
That being said don’t organise a birthday party. People are either poor or have other parties to attend.
