Why I chose this?

I’ve had this book in my Kindle Unlimited library thingy for a little while now and as I need to return some books I decided to read this. I chose this initially because the cover stood out amongst the others and the synopsis makes it sound like you want to dive straight in.

What it’s about

Circus of the Dead, Book One

There are many ways to die at the Circus of the Dead.

You’re invited to witness them all.

Mom sent me all the way across the country to the Louisiana bayou to join the circus and help my uncle for the summer.

Except there is something not quite right on this swampy cursed island, and after having my fortune told, I can’t leave.

I try to escape, but Benny, an all too charming ghost gangster tries to kill me by feeding me to a tiger.

Thankfully I’m rescued by Samuel, the incredibly hot ringmaster who can’t be a day over twenty. Can he?

In addition to avoiding the human scorpion, staying away from the big cats, and having trouble figuring out who’s dead and who’s alive, I have to find a way to escape this horror show. Will I get out of the circus alive or will I join their army of ghosts and become a murderer myself?

Welcome to the Circus of the Dead.

What I Thought

This book has intrigued me for a while so I took the plunged and finished it in just over an hour and what an action-packed hour it was.

Callie (Calliope) has been shipped off from California to a Louisiana swamp to help her Uncle who insisted he needed help. Only to not have a clue about her arrival when she got there and tries to get rid of her but it’s too late.

Things in the Louisiana Swamp are not as they appear to be and when the sun goes down the Circus of the Dead comes alive (you don’t need to pardon the pun). Since she is stuck she goes for a wander around and meets Benny.

Benny is a cute guy who is followed around by an array of birds. If that wasn’t enough of a problem, he’s also a ghost who has to kill Callie.

During one of these attempts, Callie meets Samuel the Ringmaster and Obeah Man and my assumption is that its Samuel on the cover of the book behind Callie. Samuel is handsome but he has an agenda which becomes more and more apparent especially when he asks Callie to join the circus.

Once finishing this book I had many questions such as who summoned Callie to the circus? (although I do have a pretty good idea) and the author has promised answers in book two.

I for one am looking forward to it and will be downloading on Kindle Unlimited as soon as I have returned this as I’m at my borrowing limit.
