Crown of Midnight: Book Review

Book Title: Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2)
Author: Sarah J Maas
Genre: Fantasy
Target Audience: YA

But death was her curse and her gift, and death had been her good friend these long, long years.

Why I chose this

Since it’s book two of seven I think that’s reason enough 😁

What it's about

Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass, #2)Crowned by Evil.
Bound by Duty.
Divided by Love.

Celaena Sardothien, royal assassin, is the King of Adarlan’s deadliest weapon. She must win her freedom through his enemies’ blood – but she cannot bear to kill for the crown. And every death Celaena fakes, every lie she tells, put those she loves at risk.

Torn between her two protectors – a captain and a prince – and battling a dark force far greater than the king, Celaena must decide what she will fight for: her liberty, her heart or the fate of a kingdom…

What I thought

Wow. Just wow. This was quite the book.

Celaena was great at manipulating people into doing her bidding while trying to save the lives of the ones she loved. I’m really not surprised she lost it when someone she felt close to ending up being murdered (Sorry about the spoilers but I am late to the party reading these in fairness).

Chaol is such a sweetheart in this. It’s like she has completely melted his icy exterior but it was nice to see that they were careful of Dorian’s feelings. In some other books, it feels like the “couple” have always decided that the one before their now significant other is now an unnecessary part of the story. This isn’t the case with Dorian though.

Who knew what Dorian was capable of? I certainly wouldn’t have guessed. That definitely came as a surprise to me and I can’t wait to see his fathers reaction and whether his brother will show signs of it.

I found Archer a little bit like Tamlin. He was too big for his boots. He knew he was good-looking, he played on it, he was dangerous and had metaphorical talons in places he shouldn’t have. Celaena shouldn’t have trusted him. She struggles to trust people as it is. so why him He’s a complete arse and is like some of the lads I went to school with.

I am liking the way Sarah J Mass gives the characters love interest but not having them be the person that they’re supposed to be with. To me, it shows young girls that the first boy/man you find interest in doesn’t necessarily mean that they are the one. Just because they might be drop dead gorgeous and a great kisser doesn’t mean you will be compatible forever. This is what Disney doesn’t do and should do it at least once.

*lies, I tell you

Anyway back to the review *cough cough*

So what do I give this book. I give it a respectable

I am so ready and really looking forward to Heir of Fire now that Celaena is going on a voyage and Chaol now knows who she really is.

Have you ever regretted starting a book series late? Do you think I should have started this years ago or do you think it’s a good time to start as the final book comes out this year?
