I Heart Characters! is a weekly meme hosted by Dani @ Perspective of a Writer to showcase our book blogger love for characters! I post my characters on Thursdays but feel free to post on whatever day suits you, about characters from whatever media you love (books, movies, K-dramas, television, manga, anime, webtoons, whatever!) and link up on the prompt post. ♡
This weeks theme is:
A mischief Maker
(yes one of those kinds of characters, that cause problems and glories in the mess that they cause! They can be a good guy, totally grey or black to the bone…)
There is only one fandom that comes to mind as it has more than it’s fair share of mischief makers and I only need to say two words for everyone to figure it out
First Mischief Maker from Harry Potter I’m going with has to be Peeves the Poltergeist. Is there anything he does that doesn’t involve causing mischief? I honestly don’t think there is.
He was created with the School and is a supposedly tangible manifestation of the students’ mischief. Since he has been around since 993c he has been the bane of every single caretaker to bless Hogwarts.
According to the fandom Wiki page, In 1876, caretaker Rancorous Carpe devised an “elaborate trap” in an effort to remove Peeves from the Castle. The trap comprised a bait of assortment of weapons and a vast enchanted bell jar, reinforced by various Containment Charms, which he intended to drop over the poltergeist once he was in place. This did not go as planned, as Peeves easily broke through the bell jar and was left armed with several cutlasses, crossbows, a blunderbuss and a miniature cannon. The Castle had to be evacuated for three days as Peeves amused himself by firing randomly and threatening the students with death.
Due to this the headmistress at the time agreed to sign a contract with Peeves, so that he relinquished the weapons in exchange for additional privileges (a once-weekly swim in the boys’ toilets on the ground floor, first choice on stale bread from the kitchens for throwing purposes, and a new custom-made hat by Madame Bonhabille). This was the last and most disastrous attempt to get rid of Peeves. These events forced Mr Carpe to take early retirement “for health reasons”.
Also, I loved the fact that along with the staff and students of Hogwarts he dispised Delores Umbridge as well. So much so that he listened to the twins to “give her hell for us” which is saying something especially as he would only ever listen to the Bloody Baron or Dumbledore.
Which brings us nicely onto the next mischief makers of the series:
The Weasley Twins
From changing their little brothers teddy into a spider, to sneaking out of Hogwarts grounds in order to get supplies for parties, these two certainly know how to cause as much trouble as possible.
My favourite thing that the twins did other than the whole leave Hogwarts in Weasley twins fashion is when they attempted to put their names in the Goblet of Fire after they drank and ageing potion. Although, it is one of my favourite parts it also became one of the saddest once I read The Deathly Hallows, since it was the only time they would ever see each other as old men.
The crying now brings me onto our finally lot of Mischief Makers, the Marauders. I would say the original trouble makers but I’ve already mentioned how old Peeves is.
Moony, Shithead, Padfoot and Prongs are clearly influencers of Gred and Forge’s even if they just stumbled across the map in Flich’s office. They clearly helped them out for years before having the map passed onto the rightful owner, Harry.
I would give examples the type of mischief they got up to but because of fan ficion I can’t actually remember what is canon and what is not anymore.
Now I’m sure there are more from Harry Potter including the Golden Trio themselves but I think that these 7 individuals are more than enough trouble for poor McGonagall.
