What it’s about
Imagine you didn’t have to travel the ordinary way of transport. You could get from one place to the other quickly and without any delays. Wouldn’t that be fantastic? Mabel Bloom doesn’t like to travel the ordinary way. She dislikes buses, cars, trains or even planes. But one day she receives a very important invitation from the Other Side of the world, so she turns to her grandpa for help. Grandpa sends Mabel a recipe which, when made correctly, will give her the power to travel a very unusual way. And Mabel’s extraordinary adventure begins.
What my children thought
The first thing my son said upon finishing this book WAS “WOW!! That’s 5 stars.”
Both of my children (6 & 9) really enjoyed this and took it in turns to read each page. The words were easily understood and they didn’t really struggle other than extraordinary which isn’t a word they tend to use every day.
My daughter especially liked the sound effects that were written into the story and said it made her feel like she was in the story and joining Mabel for her adventure to her grandpa’s.
The secret ingredient kept them guessing as I wouldn’t let them go to the back of the book to find out the secret ingredients of the magic marmalade.
My kids have really enjoyed both books my Petra and they can’t wait until they’re able to share these stories with their classmates.
