Why I chose this?
It is Jaymin Eve’s new series. Why wouldn’t I choose this? Everyone of Jaymins books I have read I have really enjoyed and I have high hopes for this.
What it’s about
My father made a terrible mistake. One I’m left paying for.
As a wolf shifter growing up in a strong pack, I should be living my best life. But after my father tried to kill the alpha, I’m labeled an outcast, traitor, less than dirt.
When I can’t take pack life any longer, I run, but apparently they don’t like losing their punching bag. Torin, the alpha’s son, drags me back before my first shift… a shift that will reveal my true mate.
I never could have predicted who mine would be, but the moment my wolf looks upon him, I’m filled with hope for a brighter future.
After all, no one ever rejects their true mate, right?
Wrong. Very wrong.
When the wolves attack, my soul screams for vengeance, and somehow I touch the shadow world. Somehow I bring him to our lands.
The Shadow Beast. Our shifter god. The devil himself.
Turns out being rejected by my mate was only the beginning.
What I Thought
What a start to a trilogy I wasn’t so certain about this at first as some shifter books I have read haven’t quite hit the mark. This though was fantastic and Mera is the kind of main character I’ve been waiting for.
She is strong, she knows her own mind, takes no crap and she is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. Also, she is a bookworm who works in a bookshop. What’s not to like about her?
I am unsure of Shadow still but I’m sure I’m supposed to feel like that as we obviously haven’t got the whole story yet. Angel is another one of my favourite characters in this and there is a sisterly love forming between her and Mera.
This is a shifter story unlike any other that I have read. Most shifter stories I have come across have been lust at first sight and for this one to have had a rejection straight away sets this apart from the others.
The story, plot, dialogue, and inner monologues were out of this world and the sass from not only Mera but shadow made me want to stay up all night until I was done.
This book was fun and leaves us on a kind of cliffhanger and I can’t wait until January to read the next instalment.
