Why I chose this?
Once again this isn’t my usual type of book that I would go for but I was taken in by the synopsis and you can probably see why. This book is one of Rachel’s Random Resources.
What it’s about
The wedding bells for Lorna and Tristan Blake toll doom right as the honeymoon begins with an unexpected turn in Tristan’s health. While World War II winds down, Lorna receives a letter from the War Department informing her that the brother she thought killed in action is still alive. She is overjoyed, but his return will dredge up a devastating secret about their parents’ tragic death –a secret that could destroy her new marriage and threaten her husband’s physical and mental well-being. What unfolds is balancing act of keeping the faith and shattering the pieces of the life she’s worked so hard to put back together.
What I Thought
This is the first book I have read by this author and it certainly wont be the last. Although this is book two in the series this could be read as a stand alone as the gaps are filled in along the way.
The first and second chapter really brought it home for me as I know what it’s like to have a loved one have a heart attack and the way it was dealt with was true to life. I am assuming that the way she dealt with the alcoholism in the same way.
Lorna is how I was when tiptoeing around trying to make any situation less stressful while also navigating her way through her brothers news and the way Tristan wants to keep certain things a secret.
It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions but not one to be missed.
