Book title: Seige and Storm
Author: Leigh Bardugo
Target Audience: Young Adult
Anything worth doing always starts as a bad idea.
Why I chose this?
This series is one I see a lot and when I mentioned this to a friend she advised e that I would enjoy them. I did enjoy the first book and I’m hoping that I won’t once again be disappointed by a sequel.
Darkness never dies.
Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land. She finds starting new is not easy while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. She can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long.
The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her–or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.
What I thought
I know a lot of people have preferred this book over Shadow and Bone but I felt that once the sea whip had been killed near the very start of the book that things slowed down. This was to the point where I was getting
- oh look Mal’s brooding again
- another war meeting
- Alina being stupid and needing rescuing
- let’s show off my power
- Mal’s brooding again
As much as I liked the first book this one seemed a bit repetitive. That being said I really liked how the Darkling showed weakness and also that he kept popping up in Alina’s life at really inconvenient times. Especially at one particular point after an argument with Mal.
As I was nearing the end of the book I was impatiently waiting for the climax to happen and the end of the book is getting nearer and nearer but it hasn’t happened yet. Eventually, we got to the climax which once again had some expected parts but the ending was a bit of a shock but I feel it was worth it and I enjoyed the last few chapters.
I’ve decided to give Siege and Storm
It wasn’t bad but it also wasnt great for me. Also, I’m not sure of peoples obsession with the Darkling. Is it like the whole Draco Malfoy thing again?
