WWW Wednesday

WWW Wednesday: 30th May

Which means it’s time for another WWW Wednesday. WWW Wednesday¬†is a weekly tag hosted by¬†Taking on a World of Words. To participate, you just answer the following questions:

  1. What are you currently reading?

  2. What did you recently finish reading?

  3. What do you think you’ll read next?

1. What are you currently reading?

Glass Sword (Red Queen, #2)

I’m currently reading Glass Sword (book #2 in the Red Queen Series) by Victoria Aveyard. At the moment I’m 40% in and waiting for something to happen. With these stories¬†(even though I’ve read one and not quite a half) seem to have a bit of scene building then something will happen then it’s figuring out why it’s happened¬†then something even bigger will happen towards the end.

Currently, i’m at a part where I’m hoping something will happen to give the story a bit of a boost because¬†it’s just seeming a little stale at the moment. I do sense¬†something will happen soon as they’ve just arrived at a new place to find another new blood to help their cause.

These, in my opinion, aren’t bad books but you have to be patient¬†with them and I’m looking forward to how Mare, Cal, and Co look at defeating Maven and his truly terrible¬†whisper of a mother who is extremely adept at lying to save her own skin.

2. What did you recently finish reading?

Red Queen (Red Queen, #1)

YAY I actually have a 4 star read and it seems so long since I’ve read one. As a mentioned above this one seemed a little slow to start with and there was a fair bit of scene building but since I’ve written the review (you can find here) there is also a lot of backgrounds given to the characters which are usually spread throughout other books I have read and only really comes to light during an event. Usually, these are minor details but by doing this as soon as she has gives more opportunity to tell the more of the story as it unfolds without having to explain something later on.

I enjoyed this book and I’m still surprised that I didn’t see the twist coming which I’m still rather happy about (the fact I didn’t see the twist coming not the fact that the Queen and Maven were so ruthless and evil). I can see why people have been eagerly awaiting War Storm and like I said i’m only 40% into Glass Sword.

HeartlessThis week and actually before Red Queen, I read Marissa Meyer’s Heartless so from one red queen to another. This one I didn’t enjoy quite as much (again you can read about it¬†here).

I still seriously can’t believe how hungry it made me. I was always looking for a snack and having a route through my cupboards looking for a bar of chocolate or something.

The first 100 or so pages are all about tarts, macaroons and tea parties. The last 50 pages seemed way too condensed and rushed as almost like she wanted the book to be finished as soon as possible and didn’t want to write it anymore. It seemed as though she was on a deadline for the number of pages used and didn’t have enough to write how the queen turned into the one we all know from Alice in Wonderland.

3. What will you read next?

King's Cage (Red Queen, #3)

My next read is going to be Kings Cage. I’m really wanting to finish this series as soon as possible as I have a couple of series in my TBR pile and once again Laura doesn’t know which one to read next. I have a choice of Caraval, The Raven Boys or The Cruel Prince.

Why are the choices as to what to read next so hard when there are so many good books out there? It’s no wonder peoples TBR piles are so huge and neverending.
